Abdal Musa – the Abdal Musa Cem – Görgü Cem – İkrar – Kurban (Ritual Sacrifice)

In this video, Pir Celal Fırat provides a detailed explanation of the central position of Abdal Musa within the Alevi belief system and the meanings carried by the cem rituals held in his name. The Abdal Musa Cem is addressed particularly in connection with görgü and ikrar practices; within this context, the individual’s participation in the community, social responsibilities, and moral obligations on the path of truth are redefined. In Pir Fırat’s account, the Görgü Cem is positioned as the space in which both the individual and the community confront their own conscience, while ikrar is framed as the symbolic covenant of fidelity established with belief.

The video also sheds light on the functional, symbolic, and social dimensions of the kurban ritual in Alevism. Kurban is presented not merely as a votive offering, but as an act that strengthens sharing, rızalık, and communal unity. Throughout the narrative, emphasis is placed on how these practices, shaped within the Abdal Musa tradition, are sustained in contemporary Alevism, the transformations they undergo, and their role in social relations.

This recording was prepared for the Alevi Encyclopedia project within the framework of the Pirler–Analar Workshop held on 10–11 May 2025 at the Dortmund Alevi Cultural Center – Rıza Şehri Academy (DAKME).
