Dear Researchers,
The Alevi Encyclopedia is now accepting new entry submissions for its sixth publication cycle, scheduled for release on 15 October 2026.
Having successfully completed its first year, the Encyclopedia is developing into a growing international knowledge and reference platform in the field of Alevi Studies. With publications in Turkish, English, and German, an open-access structure, and an average of 3,000 unique visitors per day, it reaches an increasingly broad readership.
We invite researchers, postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and senior scholars to submit original contributions that reflect the historical, religious, social, political, and cultural diversity of Alevism. Previously published research may also be revised and adapted into an encyclopedic entry.
Publishing in the Alevi Encyclopedia increases the visibility of research among both academic audiences and the wider public, while offering contributors the opportunity to take part in the development of a shared and enduring body of scholarly knowledge.
Timeline for the Fifth Group of Entries

What Can Be Submitted?
1) Previously published works such as articles, book chapters, dictionary/encyclopedia entries, thesis excerpts, or journalistic essays may be revised and formatted according to the Alevi Encyclopedia criteria.
2) Ongoing or unpublished research may also be submitted.
3) Entries can be classical anthropological, folkloric, or ethnographic subjects (e.g. ocak, pir, ana, cemevi, cem, musahiplik), or conceptual/thematic topics (e.g. third-generation Alevis in the diaspora, Alevis and violence, Alevism and women).
Submission Guidelines
Author Login: Contributors must create a personal account via the Author Login section of the website. These accounts may be personalised with a photo, CV, and social media links. (Note: pseudonyms are not accepted; authors must register under their real names.)
Language: Entries may be submitted in Turkish, English, or German. If you wish to submit your text in more than one language, please include all versions in a single Word file.
Format: Word (.docx), Times New Roman, 12pt, 1.5 line spacing.
Length: Recommended 200–2,000 words; maximum length 5,000 words (including notes and references).
Referencing: Must follow the Alevi Encyclopedia Reference Guide; DOI numbers or online links should be added where available.
Structure of Encyclopedia Entries
Title: concise, clear, and descriptive
Abstract: max. 300-word introductory paragraph
Subheadings: to structure the text into sections
Conclusion: short summary of the discussion
Endnotes: to be used instead of footnotes (if necessary)
References & Further Reading: sources cited in the text plus additional recommended literature
