The Ocak Institution, İkrar, Marriage in Alevism, Alevi Ethics, and Alevism and Islam

In this video, Pir Rıza Yağmur explains the fundamental pillars and internal systematics of traditional Alevi teaching, drawing on his long life experience. He conveys a living memory that extends from past pir–talip relations and the meaning and function of the İkrar Gülbengi to the doctrine of the Four Gates and Forty Stations and to marriage and ikrar rituals in Alevism.

The Pir also recounts a marriage ceremony he once officiated in a church, sharing striking and thought-provoking details. Concepts such as Gurûh-u Nâci, creation belief, deyişler (Alevi verses), conscience, and nefs are discussed as moral and ethical notions through which the inner world of Alevism is interpreted in a coherent and holistic way.

In addition, the relationship between Alevism and Islam is addressed on both historical and theological levels, articulated through the wisdom of a Pir. Overall, the narration offers both pedagogical and theological depth regarding the essence of the Yol and sheds light on earlier forms of Alevi ritual practice and yol erkânı.

This recording was made on 27 June 2025 at the CAN TV studios in Cologne. The interviews were conducted within the framework of the Alevi Encyclopedia project.
