The Ocak System in Alevism
In this video, Pir Mahmut Ütebay discusses the Ocak system, which constitutes a foundational pillar of the Alevi belief structure. The historical origins of Ocaks, their social functions, their religious authority, and their significance within the framework of talip–pir relations are examined in detail. Emphasis is also placed on how Ocaks are shaped not solely through lineage, but through social responsibility, service, and guidance. The video serves as an important oral source for understanding the constitutive role of the Ocak system in Alevism.
