The Ocak System, Mısayb (Musahip), and Being Raised within a Pir Ocak

This video examines the Ocak system, which forms the social and spiritual backbone of Alevism, with a particular focus on the experience of being raised within a Pir Ocak. The institution of Mısayb (musahip) signifies not only the acquisition of a path companion but also the assumption of responsibility within the ritual order.

The video shows how the “ethics of the path” are internalized through musahiplik and what kinds of service and discipline are involved in being raised in a Pir Ocak. Within this framework, the ritual of standing in the dar and the position of düşkünlük are also discussed, highlighting the relationship between individual conscience and communal conduct.

In this way, the Ocak system represents not merely a lineage-based structure but a teaching and way of life grounded in truth, consent, and ethical conduct.

This recording was made on 10–11 May 2025 at the Dortmund Alevi Cultural Center (DAKME), within the framework of the Pirler–Analar Workshop organized for the Alevi Encyclopedia project by the Rıza Şehri Academy.
