Emeritus Prof. Martin van Bruinessen
Martin van Bruinessen is Professor Emeritus of Comparative Studies of Contemporary Muslim Societies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. He carried out anthropological field research in all parts of Kurdistan in the mid-1970s and has frequently revisited the region. He is the author of Agha, Shaikh and State: The Social and Political Structures of Kurdistan (London, 1992) and numerous other publications on the Kurds, on the Alevis, and on other religious minorities in the region.
