Alevi Encyclopedia Open Lecture Series: Key Concepts and Contemporary Discussions in Alevi Studies
The Alevi Encyclopedia is an open-access, multilingual academic periodical, online museum and oral history archive dedicated to producing, preserving and sharing scholarly knowledge and cultural memory concerning Alevism. Registered under the International Standard Identifier for Libraries and Related Organizations (ISIL) with the code DE-4607, the Encyclopedia is identified as a serial publication by the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) 3055-9928 and registers Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for its publications through Crossref. The Encyclopedia is expanding its work in scholarly knowledge production and dissemination through its Open Lectures. Developed in collaboration with the Alevi Studies Network, these lecture series aim to make scholarship in Alevi Studies, produced across different disciplines and languages, accessible both to academic audiences and to the wider public interested in learning about Alevism.
Prepared with contributions from scholars specialising in their respective fields, the lectures address key topics, concepts and contemporary debates in Alevi history, sociology, theology and anthropology, as well as art, aesthetics, cultural memory, gender, migration and diaspora studies. Presented as video recordings accompanied by lecture texts, these resources bring together different research approaches and contribute to an understanding of the historical and contemporary diversity of Alevi communities. Designed to produce academic resources for use in university courses, seminars and independent learning, the Open Lectures are being developed as a free, permanently accessible educational platform, expanding with new content organised into autumn and spring editions beginning in Autumn 2026.
