Analık & Pirlik Institution – the Fourth Gate of Hak

In this video, Pir Ali Doğan, a member of the Seyyid Seyfeddin (Pîrî Sevdîn) Ocak, addresses the service positions corresponding to the “fourth gate of Hak” within the Alevi belief system. The functions of religious leaders such as pir, rayber, and ana are evaluated with regard to the spiritual guidance of the talip community along the path that begins with ikrar. Focusing in particular on the institution of analık, Ali Doğan renders visible women’s constitutive and protective roles on this path through concepts such as “sacred relics” and the Hakk Döşeği. Profound connections are established between religious practices shaped around ziyaret and ziyaretgâhs and the position of cans who pass through the Hakk Kapısı within the community; this entire structure is integrated with the immanent moral order of the Riya Haq (Raa Haqi) teaching.
