Düşkünlük (Ethical Sanction / Ritual Suspension) and the Düşkün Ocak
This video examines the concept of düşkünlük, the most severe ethical sanction within the Alevi path, and the function of the Düşkün Ocak, which oversees this process. Düşkünlük refers to the temporary suspension of an individual who has acted against the principles of the yol erkânı. At the same time, it preserves a path for return through repentance, consent, and moral repair.
The video approaches this process from the perspectives of individual conscience and collective ethics. The figure of Seyit Xıdır symbolizes repentance, mediation, and the possibility of reintegration into the community. The narration emphasizes that düşkünlük is not merely a punishment but a teaching that sustains social memory and the ethical foundations of the Alevi path.
The Düşkün Kapısı is presented as one of the most striking thresholds of the path, revealing both its sense of justice and its capacity for mercy.
This recording was made on 10–11 May 2025 at the Dortmund Alevi Cultural Center (DAKME), within the framework of the Pirler–Analar Workshop organized for the Alevi Encyclopedia project by the Rıza Şehri Academy.
